Size
Typically 5 – 30cm juveniles in freshwater, up to 150cm in the ocean.
Identification
Streamlined and compressed body with a forked caudal fin. Lower jaw projects beyond the snout with a large eye that reflects a red-pink colour when shined with light.
Description
Facultatively amphidromous species, entering small streams and large rivers in Hong Kong. Adults widespread in the ocean although only juveniles have been recorded in freshwater; possibly catadromous life history in Hong Kong.
